Hurricane Katrina
Shera, Dakota and I left town Saturday morning and are safely out of the city. Keep praying for our friends who have not been able to get out.
It appears that the situation around our home may have worsened. Information is scarce and all electricity and communication in the city will be down for some time. We are safe and with family. The magnitutde of this disaster is still unknown. Thanks for the emails and notes of encouragement. Your continued prayer is appreciated.
For those of you trying to reach us, our cell phones can not receive calls but we are able to make calls. To contact Shera or I, please click on the words “Hurricane Katrina” above and post a message with your contact info and we will respond ASAP. We are online through out the day. Those of you wishing to contact Shera can do so at sherat@hotmail.com. Thank you for your continued prayers and encouraging words.

Dude, such a prophetic voice! (And you were once such a shy young youth, grasshopper!). I live a little ways off campus, so it kills me when I hear people talk about my neighbors and my city (>20 yrs now!). Glad you all are safe; we grabbed a few things and headed out Sat. midnight ourselves. Shoot me a note at prof@paris.com if you have time, especially if you hear something about the neighborhood outside the big black fence. I’m there and I’m interested! Later!

James,
We have been wondering if you and your wife got out of the city before the hurricane came. We are glad to hear you are safe with family. We have been watching all this on TV, such a disaster. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in New Orleans.

James..
Glad to hear you guys are safe! Hey listen, I met with our youth group lastnite and next wednesday night we are going to take up an offering. Can we send it to you so that you might know of somebody who could use the money. Or if you know of other things that we might be able to send, let me know. We talked about “materialism” lastnite and this will be a great way for these kids to do something. Thanks so much… I look forward to hearing from you…

James,
Great site. This was a 1st time visit and I must say I’m impressed. I talked with E. Dukes and he gave me the contact info for you. Our prayers are with you and your family during this trying time. Seek refuge in God’s promise. ROMANS 5:3-4, ROMANS 8:28, PHILIPPIANS 4:19. I speak with no first hand knowlege of your situations, only with the hope that these passages might provide comfort.
In Christs Love,

James…so sorry I haven’t been in touch. Baby #4 is getting here on Tuesday, and I don’t feel the least bit prepared.
We’ve been absolutely awestruck with the situation in N.O. Jess’s Mom is still waiting to hear the extent of the damage on the West Bank. Glad to hear you guys are well…but I’ll be praying for you as you figure out what next.
Holler if you need anything.

Hey James and Shera … it’s been a looong time, but naturally you are in my thoughts a bit more than usual with all the Katrina news. Glad to hear you’re out and safe.
Our church is looking for a connection that steps beyond the massive organizations and can connect for some long-term assistance with local ministry. Let me know if you’d like me to connect our pastor with you or if you have any ideas in that direction …
If you want to escape the south and head towards earthquake territory, you’ll always find an open door here in So. Cal.

We are relieved to hear from you. We have just released a “gym full” of evacuees to the George R Brown Convention Center. Memorial Baptist has once again proved that God has unexpected missions for us! We came to love many of the evacuees like family. Some of them hope to return and make B’town and MBC home. Be Safe! Love, Barbara P.S. Did you know Rex Miller is back in B’town! Tell Mom and Dad that the parsonage is for sale — come on down!

glad to know you’re okay, man. i’ve gradually been finding news about others of my fuge family down in NO, but it seems like it’s still coming way too slow.
September 6th, 2005 at 1:30 pm
Glad you are safe. My prayers and thoughts have been with you all. Our family like many others spent the frist two days afterward just locating family. All of my family is safe and accounted for. Seminary is moving a large number of students to live here in Birmingham, @ The Church at Brookhills. So, if you know anyone comming this way, have them get in touch with me, and I’ll see what I can do about keeping them busy with some Wednesday night speaking.
So glad you are ok. Hope to hear from you soon.

James,
I was wondering about you and Shera after the storm, and I finally had the bright idea to check your website! So glad to hear you’re safe and with family. I’m shocked and dismayed at what I’ve heard about the situation in NO and all along the Gulf…Sao Paulo seems really far from home at a time like this. I’m praying.
