New Music Recommendation of the Week

Phil Wickham - Phil Wickham
PHIL WICKHAM - PHIL WICKHAM. I was given the song “Grace” from Phil’s new record as a free download off of iTunes and was impressed. The rest of the record is just as strong. A great debut. This record is what would happen if Rufus Wainwright became a Christ-follower and learned how to play guitar. Scope “Divine Romance” or “Crumble to Pieces.” Phil Wickham’s self-titled debut is a rich and I think lasting contribution. (Clicking on the cover art to the left opens the CD in the iTunes music store.)

Nashville Show

Seems like I never get to play a show for friends and family. Always a room full of total strangers. Not this weekend. If you’re near Nashville, come hang with me at THE GOOD CUP in Franklin, TN Saturday, April 22nd from 7 - 8:30ish. $5.00 at the door and all the proceeds go to a good cause…ME! This place has great coffee and word games at every table in case a lyric inspires your own creativity (or you get bored from all the ballads.)

New Music Recommendation of the Week

Mae - Everglow

MAE - EVERGLOW. I think I should start a new category called “Great albums I completely missed.” I’m featuring Mae’s 2005 release, Everglow, with the assumption that I’m not the only one that blasted through 2005 distracted by other great emerging artists like Sufjan Stevens and Butterfly Boucher. Catch them on tour now with Yellowcard and see another example of an opening band that outshines the headliner. Clicking on the cover art to the left opens the CD in iTunes. If you don’t have iTunes yet you can download it HERE.

April Update

FBC Daytona Group Busy, busy, busy. Easter-eve I will arrive home for six weeks of much needed reading, rest, and XBOX. It has been a crazy few months and I’ve met a bunch of new friends on the road. I enjoyed a week with the crew from FBC Daytona (a few pictured here after a hard day of service). It was fun to catch up with Nick and Jeremy (come on fellas, time to update the BIGLIFE WEBSITE. If I can do it, you can do it!) My Leesburg crew treated me like a king. After that was a wild week in Atlanta. I had a blast at a house concert with the Warren clan in Alpharetta. I can’t believe I was in the same house as an Xbox 360 and we never played, Bob. Too much talkin’ about Jesus and not enough mindless blowing stuff up…wait…okay never mind. The folks at FBC Atlanta were very kind even after MY GUITAR blew up and I had to do the entire set from the piano. Somehow every wire in my acoustic pick-up got pulled out. How does that happen? Gravity? Anyway it was fun to look out and see the Vied sisters on the front row singing along with every song. Nothing But Fun (it’s more than just noodles!) It was good to catch up with Jason and make some new friends at Southern Tech and Kennessaw State. Can’t say I ever would have even thought to hit syrup shooters at Wafflehouse at midnight. Goes down SMOOTH…okay, goes down sticky and then you’re awake for six hours with the sugar-shakes. I’m with old friends in Hudson, NC next, then new friends in Cabot, AR, then old friends from Spring Advance in the next week. For those of you in the Nashville area, I have a show April 22 at THE GOOD CUP in the Grassland area of Franklin, TN. It’s a cool little coffee shop with award winning barista’s. Come if you can!
